Pipeline Watchdog RMU

Satellite or Digital Cellular based Monitoring of Pipeline Cathodic Protection Systems

Click for larger image. The Pipeline Watchdog RMU is designed for true remote monitoring and data collection of cathodic protection rectifiers, critical bonds, and other devices and sensors used in the pipeline industry using GSM digital cellular or Inmarsat D+ satellite communications.

GSM digital cellular is recommended for most North American sites, while Skywave Inmarsat D+ works anywhere in the world and is recommended for the most remote sites. The system also works with other communications options, including ISM band radio and Modbus.

The Pipeline Watchdog RMU is designed to withstand the most severe CP rectifier environments. Surge leads are provided with each unit, and the unit physically disconnects itself from the structure via relays when not taking measurements. In addition, the units are self-powered with long-life batteries for further electrical isolation from the rectifier.

RMU Benefits

  • Eliminates travel to sites to perform rectifier readings
  • Reliably monitors CP rectifier operation - outage alarms sent by email and/or text message
  • Website allows set up of automated rectifier data reports, in selectable file format for easy import into popular CPDM software (e.g. Bass-Trigon, ProActive, Paradigm, .XLS, .CSV, .XML, etc.)
  • Low monthly messaging costs
  • Expandable to monitor other pipeline assets and processes (valve position, pressure, flow, etc.)
